After nearly two years hiatus, Profane Existence will resume its publishing schedule with the release of fall 2010 PRINTED issue of Profane Existence magazine. Among other features on deck are interviews with legendary MDC vocalist Dave Dictor and the members of soon to be legendary IN DEFENCE. The next issue will be sequentially numbered as Profane Existence #58, but only selected material from the web version of the same number will be printed. Everything else (columns, reviews, etc.) are all new and will not previously released on the web.
For this issue (and those in the foreseeable future) we're returning to our roots and will be publishing PE in the most basic and inexpensive black and white newsprint format available. We're finito with the color printing, glossy cover, CD compilation, barcode, and all the other bullshit that made it increasingly difficult and expensive to produce. PE #58 (and onwards) will be a bare-knuckled, to the point, no-frills, political punk zine and (best of all) we're going back to the original cover price we started with back in 1989: $1 in person from PE staff, DIY distro stalls, and select retail stores.

At the beginning of 2010 the Profane Existence collective decided to give a percentage of our monthly mail order sales to an organization or cause that matches the belief systems held by the members of the collective. Since the outset of this project Profane Existence has given at least $50 per monthly to a given cause. Our pledge is to give 5% of our monthly mailorder sales (maximum $300) to various social justice and other worthwhile organizations we supprt. While your purchases help the causes listed below, we encourage to make additional donations you can afford, as well as continue to work for a just and equal world in any way possible.
PARTNERS IN HEALTH
Partners in Health is the first organization Profane Existence donated money to in 2010. Partners in Health started their work in rural squatter communities in Haiti to bring medicine to these communities and to prove that allegedly untreatable health problems like drug resistant TB and HIV/AIDS can be addressed in poor settings. Since Partners in Health’s inception in Haiti 1987 they’ve started working in communities in Lesotho, Malawi, Peru, Rwanda, Russia and the United States and support projects in Mexico and Guatemala. At its root, Partners in Health’s mission is both medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone.Partners in Health were among the first NGO’s on the ground when the earthquake devastated Haiti earlier this year. For more on Partners in Health visit their website: www.pih.org
SUPPORT SCOTT AND CARRIE CAMPAIGN
Another cause Profane Existence has donated money to is the Support Scott and Carrie Campaign.Scott DeMuth and Carrie Feldman are activists from Minneapolis, who were subpoenaed to a federal grand jury in Iowa investigating animal rights vandalism from 2004. They both refused to cooperate with the grand jury, and were put in jail. On 11/19/09, Scott’s civil contempt was dropped and he was indicted for conspiracy under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. Scott was released on 11/30/09 pending trial, which is currently scheduled for 09/13/10. Carrie was held on civil contempt of court until her release on 3/19/10.For more information on Scott and Carrie and details on how you can support this cause and subvert the governments ‘Green-Scare’ tactics visit: www.davenportgrandjury.wordpress.com
Profane Existence will be donating money to the protesters arrested during the G20 event in Toronto. After a large march and rally against the meeting of the G20, police attacked a crowd of peaceful protesters in Queens Park. Journalists were among those detained and reports from the event are coming in hourly. Another benefactor of these funds will be the Warren ‘Spider’ Hastings memorial fund. Spider Hastings was the founder of Punkfest one of the longest running punk rock festivals in North America. Spider passed away on Valentine’s day in 2009.

The first full length album from the latest addition to the Wisconsin crust punk pantheon. Dresden play a powerful mixture of D-beat hardcore and powerful punk with an intensity that comes from their depth of experience, containing members of bands Wartorn, Despite, and Remission to name a few. This album contains eight length crust punk anthems, including the tracks from their limited edition God Has No Mercy tour EP. The vinyl includes a large poster with graphic inventions from the skulls and bullet belts school of punk rock art. This is a cooperative release between Shaman, Crimes Against Humanity, Deskontento, Hell on Earth and Profane Existence. In other words each label only has a few copies so get it while you can!

An intense new full length album from this dark crust band hailing from the gloomy crust punk underworld of Gothenburg, Sweden. Eight songs in just over 72 minutes(!) of death and blackmetal gloom with a healthy dose of crust punk influences. This is one of the most epic and most expressive releases to date: crushed souls, despair, and everything you'd expect from a Profane Existence title. Agrimonia previously self-released a crushing hour-long demo in 2007, which was later repressed on vinyl by Skuld Releases and on CD by Detesta Records. Vinyl version of Host of the Winged will also be released in Europe by Skuld and should be available for their West Coast tour of the US in August. Check out their page on MySpace for the latest info. Also read their interview in Profane Existence.
Digital versions of Host of the Winged is also available for purchase from iTunes, Amazon, MP3, Napster, Spotify, eMusic, Zune, Nokia, Shockhound, Thumbplay, IMVU, eMusic and more. Vinyl versions from Skuld releases will soon be available through Profane Existence Distro.

AMEBIX Redux 12"/CD/digital
Profane Existence is proud to team up with crust punk/metal legends Amebix for the release of three classic Amebix tracks as redone by the current lineup: Rob (aka "The Baron), Stig, and Roy. Total running time is approximately 20 minutes and will be available on 12" vinyl, compact disc and via digital download (with a bonus preview track of their upcoming live album/DVD release). The audio is currently being mastered by Rodney Mills, with an expected release date of June 1st, 2010. The chance to release an Amebix record is something that doesn't happen every day, so we'll probably do something cool and limited for the first pressing like an embroided patch. Also don't forget to sign up for the Amebix mailing list at the freshly rebuilt Amebix.net if you haven't visited in a while. |
