So, ...what have you been up to ?
Getting fired from a job of nearly 3 years led me to say FUCK ALL this past October. I took off from my home in Minneapolis for awhile and went south. No plan in mind, just a lust to be free, to think, to wander, to gain some experience. Backpack on my shoulders... I went.
Ended up in Dallas, Texas. Never been there.
The Pogues were playing my first night in town at 'The House of Blues'. It was $60... fuck that, right? I thought of a CLEVER yet seemingly impossible way to get in for free, and surprisingly it WORKED!
So, I got to see The Pogues, one of my favorite bands play. For free! And they were fucking brilliant. Shane didn't really take a swill of Gin til' the very end... Was surprised!
Shane MacGowan

set list.

After the gig and floating on air, I made my way to yet another show where Tolar was playing.
I knew Unit 21 / Tolar from them having stay at shitty punk houses in MPLS I've lived at when they've been on tour. Met up with those cats and had a place to crash for awhile. Dallas kids know how to party.
Matt & Dave of TOLAR

Random party on Halloween... Super stoked I met all these kids. Again, Dallas punks know how to party!!!

Me, Antonio, & Matt.

Me & Cizar.

Cizar & his snake.

Was getting pretty anxious to leave Dallas after about a week or so. There wasn't much to do for a person on foot, everything was SO spread out.
My next stop was obvious. AUSTIN fucking TEXAS. My home away from home at this point. I love this city.
Met up with two of my favorite humans... Chris and Martina...

Seriously, words can't describe how much I adore them.
Spent a good chunk of time in Austin. Explored a lot via Martina's bike, made some epic vegan feasts with friends courtesy of food stamps, and caught some excellent shows.
Me & Martina.

KEGCHARGE. @Emo's, indoors.

Ariel. Me. Martina.

friends!

crazy Texas James

Epic vegan BBQ feast!

Mucho alcohol consumption...

Christ on Parade. @Red 7.

NEGATIVE APPROACH!!!!! @Red 7.
(So goooood. So pissed. So fucking angry...)

Exploration: Austin...

Made this vegan lasagna from SCRATCH!!!
First of all, no such thing as too much garlic:

Layers, and layers, and layers.

Mmm... Delicious!

Cemetery exploration with John! (Who makes really awesome chain maille and jewelery.)
(( Check out his SICKKKK work! http://www.myspace.com/distort1158 ))
Punx in cemeteries!

The axe man is coming...

After Austin I got a ride via craigslist.com to New Orleans by a non-serial killer dude who listened to terrible music (Phish), yet was rather interesting and we had a great conversation about all kinds of politics, atheism, and drugs.
Got to NOLA at about 2-3 in the morning. It was rather creepy as I'd never been there before. Stayed at a hostel for a few hours, got up, and explored!
All the places I was told not to go, I went first.
Creepy old cemeteries, the ninth ward....

Didn't really know ANYONE in New Orleans. Luckily found a squat to crash at, and 'Bring the Noize Fest' happened to be going on that weekend. So, eventually ran into some folks I've hung out with before!
Snuggle @ Dragon's Den. New Orleans.

Revo... walking down the French Quarter pretending he's in a Ferrari...

Smug Banter!

Dumpster Christ!

Free community feeding that literally feeds HUNDREDS of people every night... This was rather inspiring...

Matt Pist, on the left... good new found pal who runs www.squattheplanet.net

(Thanks for all the free cider!!!) Matt works at some douchey bar on Bourbon street in which they charge $10 a cup. He will generally hook up crusties/travelers with free beer if your not an asshole. Luckily, I'm not an asshole, and my cup never ran dry my entire stay in NOLA.
Me & Matt!

More New Orleans exploration...

More from Bring The Noize Fest:
This was a local band, can't remember their name.

NOLA:

...Me in the back of someones truck... going some where?

Wrote this, wasted style...

Train ride home...

endless swamps...

Since I've been back it's pretty much been a blur.
Lot's of intense party madness, endlessly...
Yet also been really productive, doing shows, putting bands up (Contagium were AWESOME), started a new band, making stuff, being super crafty, lot's of odd jobs... Started hanging out in St. Paul and going to DIY shows across the river, which has opened up a whole new punk rock realm for me...
Just living life and trying to get the most out of each moment...
Assuming I won't get another life and proceeding accordingly....
Leaving for Seattle, and then Hawaii at the end of the month... returning in time to see RIISTETYT play here in MPLS...
Then heading down to Austin again in May for CHAOS IN TEJAS!
....See you around, eh?
