Good to see the 00 before the number 5, as this means that Danny intends to put out at least 100 issues of his excellent zine B2F.
And when I say excellent, I really mean it as it’s a really good mix of politics, anarchist history and music, the perfect @-punk mix I’d say. The political stuff isn’t just made of sloganeering and is much more than « police bastard », « bash the fash » etc… (although of course, I do agree with those slogans, I just don’t need to read them again and again). As for the musical side, well the interviews are well made and quite interesting in matters of questions and answers.
So what we get in this issue is a history of anarchy in Russia, my favourite read actually, as well as a present day situation of the punk and activist scene in this country, a very interesting interview of an ex-sex worker and co-founder of the International Union of Sex Workers (which I admit a topic I don’t often see covered in zines), good written and thougt-provoking columns, a good comic in a pessimistic yet combative tone, an article about protests, revolution and fighting back as well as a critique of a capitalistim within our scene and as it’s written at the end of this article « …it will not doubt cause controversy », well I’ve gotta say that I don’t totally agree with everything said. Yes, we should be really cautious about people only in it for the money whereas I don’t have a major issue with someone trying to make a living by selling merchandise as I don’t see the point in not doing so and working as a wage-slave elsewhere. On the musical (but political too) side, we get a reflection on 2Tone, interview’s with Belfast’s the Lobotomies, the canadian anarchist performer Norman Nawrocki, canadian punk rock veterans D.O.A. as well as Citizen Fish. Of course, there’s a lot of reviews thrown in too. All in all, a great read, an intelligent and mature political punk zine that’s not only entertaining but also a source of information and knowledge.
